Original Collage - Harbinger

Fits standard 11” x 14” opening. The original piece was cut and pasted by hand from collection of used and vintage books.  

This collage portrays hard work but also encourages viewer to find  joy and rest in life regardless of where you are and what you do. 

After re-watching the well-known film, Kiki's delivery service, I couldn’t help myself but to make this collage to represents hard-work (symbolized by the wheat grass in this collage) but also, reminding ones to stay true to themselves, have fun while learning or at work and at all times (depicted by Kiki enjoying the scenery and watching birds while flying in this collage). And sometimes, we might just have to go through hurdles to come to maturity (with dragon fly being a symbol of change and self realization). In Japan, dragonflies are revered and respected, also being symbolic of courage and success. To the Japanese, the dragonfly (Tombo) is an important cultural symbol and was believed to be a harbinger of rich harvests. Even when you work hard to “harvest”, you still need to rest; just like the birds and dragonflies, they rest on various plants and basking in the sun to absorb heat. Hope you find joy and rest in life regardless of where you are and what you do.
